Tonight begins a weekly RRm feature "In The Rotation." Each Sunday night, I'll hit you with the tunes currently on my speakers and headphones. As always, if you got the urge, hit me back.
01. THE STROKES - FIRST IMPRESSIONS OF EARTH: The most layered and diverse Strokes album to date. Also, check out B-Side "Hawaii" on the Juicebox single to hear Julian non-chalantly belt out Ha-wa-eee, Ha-wa-a-eee...
02. DUSTY SPRINGFIELD - DUSTY IN MEMPHIS: "Son Of A Preacher Man" is just the tip of the iceberg. Dusty was a seventies soul queen whose tunes and some Courvousier could help you recreate The Ladies Man in your own home.
03. ELVIS PRESLEY - ELVIS: The first track "Rip It Up" conveys the testosterone-driven dreams of a young King in 1956, and it gets me hip-shakin when no one's looking.
04. FRANZ FERDINAND - YOU COULD HAVE IT SO MUCH BETTER: If you haven't already, make sure you pick up the DualDisc special edition with studio and interview footage. Alex Kapranos and the New Scottish Gentry are the real thing, and this album features their classic dance-rock style, mixed with calm Beatles-esque ballads.
05. BEACH BOYS - PET SOUNDS: I'm just getting into this record. I know, I know...I must've slept through that class during Rock 'n Roll 101. Either way, give this one a spin (for the first time, or the hundredth) and be captivated by a band who truly developed their own style.
