In The Rotation

This week's edition of "In The Rotation" is devoted to the four most recent albums I've added to my collection. Each a bit different from the other, and each being a record I've wanted for a while now.
01. EAGLES OF DEATH METAL - "PEACE, LOVE, DEATH METAL"
Most seasoned listeners already know of Josh Homme's 'Spoon meets the Scissor Sisters' side project called Eagles Of Death Metal. For those who don't, this debut is a must-add to your collection if you're a garage rock fan in the mood for an album that doesn't take itself very seriously. The jovial track "Whorehoppin' (Shit, Goddamn)" was featured on Newsletter Worthy Volume V, and we've been hooked ever since.

02. NIC ARMSTRONG & THE THIEVES - "GREATEST WHITE LIAR"
Nic and the Thieves specialize in bluesy Brit rock, producing a sound that would appeal to fans of the White Stripes and The Redwalls. Their classic rock influences certainly include the Rolling Stones and Beatles (like that really narrows it down), and their sound is perfect for 4am Guiness-driven post-party debauchery.

03. GOLDEN SMOG - "DOWN BY THE OLD MAINSTREAM"
Yet another side project, this collection of Wilco, Jayhawks, and Soul Asylum (amongst others) members produces a casual yet authentic alt-country vibe. Best-suited for the Sunday afternoon windows-down drives to a late breakfast after your 4am bout with Nic Armstrong and Johnny Walker.

04. MAGNOLIA ELECTRIC Co. - "WHAT COMES AFTER THE BLUES"
A couple months ago, I was riding in a friend's car and found myself singing along to the tunes on this record. Never having heard the band before, I knew Magnolia's meandering, country-tinged music was something familiarly pleasing, reminding me of countless hours listening to Neil Young & Crazy Horse. Give this album a spin, and I think you'll agree that very few band names fit as nicely and appropriately as this one.
