Every Minute Is A Party

With a cheesy opening like that, you would probably expect the remainder of this post to consist of an oversized photo of Stiffler and maybe a YouTube clip from Brett Michaels' reality show (which is depressingly hilarious, I must admit).

Not so much. Not here.

HOWEVER, I do have a follow-up to that bold title which should not disappoint. The two words you need to know to unlock the "every minute is a party" dimension of your life are MOCEAN WORKER. By the way, pronounce "MOCEAN" like "MOTION." Why am I continuing with the ALL CAPS? I don't know, just consider me excited.

Mocean Worker is a one-man jazz/dance/electronica/funk/groove/blood-pumpin' soul machine that is under more influences than Tyrone Biggums on payday. Mocean's toe-tappin' heart-poundin' instrumentals flirt the range of ragtime jazz to ?uestlove drumkit hip hop...and it blends like strawberries and bananas.

There are few types of music which pass the "anytime / anywhere" test for me. Most of my collection is situationally-based, and serves a variety of purposes. The Smiths for the breakups, Lyle Lovett for the Saturday afternoons, The Strokes for the car chases (just humor me...), and Dusty Springfield for the lonely nights. Very few can hit me on the hip with the right message regardless of the setting. In that category for me now are Bob Marley, Jenny Lewis, and The Beatles...and I always had a soft spot for the Dixie Chicks --- sue me. I'm delightfully pleased to quickly add Mocean Worker to the "anytime / anywhere" list because it's already become undeniably obvious that his music has a direct line to my soul. Nothing spiritual about it...it's just old-fashioned groove music, with some of that new flavor sprinkled on top. Similar to the timeless tunes of Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, Mocean Worker's appeal should be limitless because of his ability to transcend genres.

When the opportunity strikes, click over to Mocean Worker's myspace page and get your soul a taste of what it's been missing.
