And Your Name Is...

Michael Frensley

Captivating midnight set tonight at Rockwood Music Hall from this up-and-coming songwriter, whose appearance evokes thoughts of Chris Robinson and Ray LaMontagne, while his writing and delivery are more reminiscent of Ryan Adams and Bob Dylan. Frensley's set included Adams and Dylan covers, but the highlights were his own material, which is an intriguing work-in-progress. Bartender-by-day, his songs express a familiar curiosity with the lives of strangers, along with weaving tales of the mysteries of his own heartache. No files to download, no CDs for sale, no MySpace page. A Google search of his name only returned tonight's bill at Rockwood. I live for experiencing artists like this during the genesis of their career.
